WHAT TYPES OF PROBLEMS ARE NOT ENFORCED BY THE CODE ENFORCEMENT UNIT?

The address/location of the violation(s) must be within the City limits of Hemet. Addresses with 5-digit numbers (example: 12345 Florida Ave.) fall under County of Riverside jurisdiction. You may reach the County of Riverside Code Enforcement Department at (951) 600-6140.

Code Enforcement does not enforce private CC&Rs, as these violations are handled through the appropriate Home Owners Association.

Overhanging tree branches, property line disputes, and other such civil disputes.

Barking dogs and animals running-at-large complaints should be directed to the Animal Control Department at (951) 765-2424.

Disturbing the peace violations, such as loud parties or radios, should be directed to the Police Department at (951) 765-2400.

- Although your name, address, and phone number are usually required on the complaint form, your personal information will not be released to the public, unless court-ordered by subpoena, under state law.

WHAT ARE THE CITY ORDINANCES REGARDING PARKING AND STORAGE OF VEHICLES?

All unlicensed, inoperable, wrecked, or dismantled vehicles or vehicle parts shall only be stored in an enclosed building or removed from residential property. Vehicles must be registered and capable of operating legally on the roadway in order to be parked outdoors.

All currently registered, operable, non-commercial vehicles less than 22 feet in length may be parked on the driveway or adjacent paved extended driveway as long as the front setback rule is met. [Please contact the Planning Department for current setback requirements at (951) 765-2375.]

All currently registered vehicles, including non-motorized vehicles, that are between 22 and 40 feet in length, may be parked in the side or rear yard setback area when screened by six-foot high solid fencing. The parking area is not required to be paved, but the area shall be maintained free of weeds, junk and debris.

No vehicle may be parked on any front yard, lawn or unpaved area except during the time the vehicle is being washed, and once complete it must be moved to an appropriate location to park.

No vehicle may be parked on any public street in excess of 72 consecutive hours.

No commercial vehicle shall be parked on any residential street unless loading or unloading.

No vehicles may be parked in a residential area for repairs longer than 72 consecutive hours.

Vehicles may only be displayed for sale on a paved driveway on private residential property.

WHAT IS THE CITY ORDINANCE REGARDING RESIDENTIAL YARD SALES?

A permit is not required by the City for residential yard/garage sales.

You may have a yard sale for 2 consecutive 2-day weekends, or for 3 days in a row. You must then wait 30 calendar days before holding another yard sale.

Yard sale signs are permitted only on your private property, or the neighboring property with the owner's consent. No signs shall be placed on the public right-of-way, which includes streets, sidewalks, parkways, nor attached to utility or street sign poles.

After the yard sale is over, you must remove the sale items from outdoor storage and from public view.

HOW MANY ANIMALS & WHAT KINDS OF ANIMALS MAY I KEEP?

You may keep up to 3 dogs and/or 4 cats over the age of 4 months.
