Proposed routes have been narrowed to just two for a wholly new, wider, better State Route 79 through the Hemet area. This decision was made by the Hemet City Council.
The SR-79 realignment, together with the Mid County Parkway project outlined below, are a pair of the largest transportation projects being planned for booming Riverside County. They will connect Hemet with important markets from virtually all points of the compass.

Hemet-Ryan Airport is getting ready to take off. A major runway extension, service for mid-size corporate jets, and a 50-acre development north of the airport, are all being looked at in a new 20-year Airport Master Plan and Draft Environmental Impact report expected next year.
In a major development, the master plan will evaluate the extension of the current 4,300-foot runway to 6,000 feet, a length that would accommodate mid-size corporate jets such as Gulf Stream and Hawker aircraft. Hemet is the top choice for SONIC, the classic 1950s-era drive-in. The legendary Oklahoma-based burger phenomenon has ordered up Hemet for its first Inland Empire location and only its second location in the entire Southland. (The first is just north of Disneyland, arguably the ground zero of 1950's Americana.)
"We chose southwest Hemet because it is a dynamic growing area," said SONIC owner Brian Pye, "And we feel the Sanderson and Stetson corner will be the center of that activity for the next 10 to 15 years. It was a location that met our demographics. We probably chose it for exactly the same reason WalMart did." Pye has purchased the SONIC franchise rights for all of western Riverside County.
