Page Plaza Attracts More National Retailers

Already home to one of the country’s top-performing WalMart Supercenters, Hemet’s Page Plaza has attracted a host of other retailers.

Construction is underway for Bed Bath and Beyond, Suzy’s Deals, and Dollar Tree. The Bed Bath and Beyond and other retail stores are being built immediately north of the Wal-Mart in what is being called Page Plaza Phase II.

“These retailers are deciding to come to Hemet based on the strong existing population,” says Page Plaza leasing agent Bill Neece. “Of course, they also know that 16,000 homes are built or planned within a four-mile radius of Page Plaza.”

Bed Bath and Beyond is one of the country’s savviest retailers, operating more than 815 stores in 48 states. When it comes to merchandise, the company stresses the “Beyond” portion of the name, selling an extremely wide variety of goods. Domestic merchandise and home furnishings are accompanied by food, giftware, health and beauty items, and infant and toddler merchandise. Revenue in 2007 was $6.6 billion.

Page Plaza is anchored by a 224,000-square-foot Wal-Mart Supercenter that became the third highest volume store in the entire country within a few months of opening. “When Wal-Mart committed to build this center, a lot of eyes opened up,” said Page Plaza developer Mark Cooper. For Cooper, the instantaneous success of Wal-Mart is proof that Hemet is a huge retail opportunity.

Other Page Plaza retailers clearly feel the same way, including Walgreens, Farmer Boy’s Hamburgers, Starbucks, Quiznos, Baskin Robbins, EB Games, Payless Shoes, Radio Shack, Postal Annex, and Nextel. Unleased space at the Plaza, even including the new Phase II construction, is now down to two pads and several shop spaces in the 7,000 to14,000 square foot range. Meanwhile, the center will also host two new restaurants: SONIC and Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar.
