THE POSITION
The City of Hemet is seeking highly motivated, customer service-oriented, friendly Dispatchers to fill current and anticipated vacancies in the department. The ideal candidates should be able to deal effectively with a diverse public in routine and emergency situations and demonstrate a high level of communication skills.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience/Education:
- Graduation from US high school or equivalent.
- Experience with CAD system

One year of current satisfactory service as a public safety dispatcher in a local law enforcement or fire agency.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Applicants must have the ability to:
- Operate communications system equipment, computer-aided dispatch; speak clearly in a well-modulated voice to be understood when communicating over telephone and two-way radio.
- Use computer keyboard and/or typewriter to type logs, memos, forms; use computer keyboard to enter information on calls for service, warrant checks, identity, vehicle checks.
- Hear and understand persons calling by telephone and two-way radio.
- Read and accurately interpret various printed materials, including manuals, maps, and computer printouts
- Use independent judgment to make decisions and act quickly in response to emergencies
- Work well and get along with others in a close, busy environment
- Type at a speed of 35 wpm net.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to operate business machines; lift and carry moderate weight; bend; stoop; open/close full file cabinet drawers; arrange, retrieve and replace files; sort papers and documents; sit or stand and work in a small area for extended periods of time; use a keyboard; coordinate visual and muscular dexterity to operate equipment; move about the dispatch center, offices and between buildings to accomplish a variety of tasks; and reach above the head.
SALARY: $3189 - 3876 per month. Initial placement within the salary range is based upon years of experience and training.

An evaluation of all applications received will be conducted. Those candidates who appear to be the most qualified and meet the City's requirements will be invited to participate in an oral interview appraisal. Successful candidates will be placed on an eligibility list for one (1) year. Prior to appointment, candidates must pass an extensive background investigation, polygraph and psychological evaluations, police chief's oral appraisal, and medical examination which includes drug/alcohol screening. Candidates must pass each phase of the selection process in order to be eligible for the position. All positions are filled by selection of a qualified candidate from the eligibility list.
