Fire Department Message
Welcome

Thank you for visiting the Hemet Fire Department website, a valuable resource for our community. For more than 100 years, the Hemet Fire Department has held the preservation of life, property and the environment in the highest regard. As a State Fire Marshal with 26 years of experience, it is my highest priority to maintain these standards as Hemet’s Fire Chief.

For 16 years, I have had the great privilege of serving the City of Hemet alongside some of the bravest men and women I have had the honor to work with. The members of the Hemet Fire Department serve the community heroically every day, and I also continue to serve the community by responding to calls for service two days a week. As a working Fire Chief, I know the pulse of the department floor and by remaining in the field, I also remain dedicated to both my brothers and sisters in the department and the community at large.

It is my goal to see the Hemet Fire Department restored to the department it should be rather than one that is consumed by responding to an unprecedented number of service calls. To achieve this, we will focus on Fire Prevention and Public Safety Education to prevent emergency situations before they become a tragedy. By implementing business inspection programs and public education programs, our department will not only be able to better serve the community but increase its safety as well.

We will also continue to serve the community with Hemet Fire Department’s admirable rapid response capabilities. As one of the busiest fire departments in the nation, our department responds to over 13,500 calls for service each year. Despite the strain of such a heavy call volume, I am proud to say our average response time is 6 minutes and 33 seconds. We will continue to serve Hemet with this high level of service and it is my goal that our inspection and education programs will bring positive changes to the use of the 9-1-1 system.

In addition, I believe innovation and technology are imperative to ensure that our department meets its obligations across the board without sacrificing the level of service provided. Because of this belief, I am excited to incorporate innovative technologies that will help Hemet Fire Department increase its efficiency. By implementing a program that allows qualified small businesses to conduct their own fire inspections online, we will increase the safety of our community while saving businesses time and money. We will also implement technology in our plan check department that will dramatically increase our turnaround time so that builders and businesses can get their plans approved and their doors open.

We are also working toward implementing programs within the department, such as the Truck Engineer’s Academy that launched in early 2012, that will ensure the sustained stability of Hemet Fire Department. By training our men and women for the positions of tomorrow, you can rest assured that the department will seamlessly continue to serve our community to the highest standards for decades to come.

Again, thank you for visiting the Hemet Fire Department website. Please don’t hesitate to let us know how the Hemet Fire Department can be of service to you.

Sincerely,
Joe Morris
Fire Chief
