Veteran’s Memorial Open to Public July 2nd thru July 4th

Gibbel Park

Recently the City of Hemet’s Veteran’s Memorial, specifically the Prisoner of War monument, was vandalized, resulting in a temporary closure of the memorial area.  Although City staff are diligently working to restore the monument to its former glory, the repairs require specialized work that will not be completed prior to the upcoming Fourth of July holiday.

While we are we frustrated that the memorial has suffered damage at the hands of a selfish few, we will not let the situation stop us from honoring those who gave their lives for our independence. In an effort to allow the public to visit the site this weekend and pay tribute to those who have served for our freedom, the City of Hemet Public Works Department will temporarily open the Veteran’s Memorial during park hours from Saturday, July 2nd, through Monday, July 4th.

The City of Hemet Public Works Department would like to thank the community for its patience as we work to return the Prisoner of War Monument to its former state, and we wish you all a safe and happy Independence Day!

Kris Jensen, Public Works Director
