POLICE ISSUE WARNING ABOUT A SCAM

Over the last week, at least three City of Hemet residents have been victimized by burglars preying on the citizen’s good nature.

How it works:
The suspects walk up to the victim’s residence and make up some excuse for being in the area: looking at homes, visiting relatives, etc. The suspects then ask the victim for a glass of water and ask to use the victim’s bathroom. One of the suspects will go into the victim’s home while another suspect distracts the victim. Both suspects leave a short time later and the victim later notices that items are missing from inside their home.

In all of the cases so far, the victims have been over 70 years old and at least one of the suspects has been a Hispanic female in her 40’s. In two cases, the suspects had small children with them and in the other case a male Hispanic in his 40’s was also present.

What you can do to protect yourself:
First and foremost… do not allow a stranger to come into your home! If you see strangers in your neighborhood, call the police. Don’t be fooled! There are plenty of public restrooms throughout the city that people can use without entering your home.
