THE POSITION
The City of Hemet is seeking highly motivated, career and community oriented Police Officers to fill current and anticipated vacancies in the department. The ideal candidates should be able to apply the concepts of community oriented policing, while maintaining an effective enforcement profile.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Successful completion of a California POST-accredited basic academy.
- High school graduation or GED equivalency.
- 21 years of age at time of appointment.
- Uncorrected vision of 20/100 or better in both eyes and must be corrected to 20/20 in one eye, 20/30 in the other eye. Normal color vision; normal hearing.
- Valid California driver's license and safe driving record.
- Ability to read and understand department rules, procedures, laws and general literature pertaining to law enforcement activities.
- Ability to write clear and comprehensive reports and communicate effectively orally.
- Ability to tactfully and effectively deal with various racial, ethnic and economic groups.
- Ability to work under physical and mental pressures and in potentially hazardous situations.
- Ability to perform the essential job functions associated with law enforcement, i.e. run after fleeing suspects, accurately use and qualify with issued equipment including firearms and batons, drive a police vehicle for extended periods of time, have the strength and ability to defend against attacking suspects, take physical control of violent suspects, move, drag or carry persons from danger.
SALARY
Base salary: $5,065-$6,156 per month. Initial placement within the salary range is based upon years of previous law enforcement experience and training.

- City-paid 9% employee contribution to PERS (3% at 50, CHP Plan with military buyback), Single Highest Year Formula (no Social Security deduction).

APPLICATION & SELECTION PROCESS

An evaluation of all applications received will be conducted. Those candidates who appear to be the most qualified and meet the City's requirements will be invited to participate in an oral interview appraisal. Successful candidates will be placed on an eligibility list for one (1) year. Prior to appointment, candidates must pass an extensive background investigation, polygraph and psychological evaluations, police chief's oral appraisal, and medical examination which includes drug/alcohol screening. Candidates must pass each phase of the selection process in order to be eligible for the position. All positions are filled by selection of a qualified candidate from the eligibility list.
