The City of Hemet operates its own refuse and recycling division as a utility service, instead of contracting with a private company. This gives us the flexibility to give you better service. |
|
| |
Services we provide:
Residential refuse and recycling collection:
- Refuse is collected weekly
- Mixed Recycling is collected every other week
- Yard Waste (greenwaste) is collected weekly
- Large & small containers are available
|

|
| |
RECYCLING: Your recycling will be picked up every other week on your trash day. Just toss the recyclables listed in your recycling container.
RECYCLE: GLASS, PLASTIC, CANS, JUNK MAIL, PAPER & CARDBOARD.
Please, do not put trash, greenwaste, styrofoam or appliances inside the recycling container. You can recycle plastic food, beverage and storage containers with the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, & 7 |
|
TRASH SERVICE:

Don't overfill your container
-
Make sure the lid is closed.
-
Place the container 3 feet away from anything, such as cars, mailboxes, etc...
-
Remove the container from the curb by 10 p.m. on your trash day.
-
Be sure the front of the container is facing the street.
-
Only trash inside the city cart is picked up. If you have extra trash, call to make arrangements for pickup. There may be an extra charge.
|
|
GREENWASTE: Your greenwaste is picked up every week on your trash day. Use any sturdy metal or plastic container of your own for waste. The city does not provide a container for greenwaste. We are working to automate greenwaste collection.
RECYCLE: GRASS, WEEDS, LEAVES, BRANCHES, YARD TRIMMINGS, SCRAP WOOD
Please, do not put trash, cactus, palm, yucca, rocks or dirt inside your greenwaste container. Bundle your branches with strong twine or wire. Please keep the bundles under 4 feet in length and under 40 lbs.

Currently, residential recycling is collected every other week. To help you keep track, we've created this handy color coded calendar. If you don't know what your color coded designation is, give us a call or an email, and we'll send you the calendar for your area. Be sure to let us know your address.

Most holidays do NOT affect refuse & recycling collection! There are only five holidays that do, and we've circled those dates on the calendar. All you need to remember is that if your collection day falls on or after one of these circled dates, collection will be one day late for that week only. We work Saturdays on these weeks to get caught up! |

BULKY ITEM PICKUP
Bulky Item Pickup Week will be December 26-31, 2008 |
|
| |
 |
Do you live in a single family dwelling and have a City of Hemet automated trash container? If you do, then mark your calendar for the Bulky Item Pickup weeks. That's when you can put your extra trash, furniture, washers and dryers, water heaters and other appliances out for pickup. The limit is six large items. It all needs to be at the curb by 6 a.m. on your trash day. |
|
| |
Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners require a $31.75 removal fee that must be paid for in advance. All other items and appliances will be removed for free. Hazardous materials or items are not included |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Because the automated system we employ is designed for high production, we generally only collect what is in the city supplied containers for refuse & recycling.
OUR GOAL IS TO SIMPLIFY YOUR LIFE!
While it seems ironic that our system and services are complicated, once you get the hang of it, we think you'll enjoy the ease and very reasonable cost of getting rid of items you no longer want around.
(Sorry, we can't help you with those pesky in-laws.) |

SCRAP METAL |
Of course you know that household chemicals, old motor oil, and related materials should not be thrown away with household trash. When they are, they eventually work their way into one of our most precious and limited resources... our fresh water supplies. Did you know that 95% of our drinking water is from underground sources? Cleaning these poisons from our water is both extremely expensive and very time consuming. Think if it this way: all the time and money spent on purifying our water is time and money that can't be spent elsewhere... whether that is in replacing old, undersized water delivery systems, constructing new water delivery systems to serve our growing needs, or even reducing the cost of providing safe water supplies... you get the idea.

Some quick water facts...
- Less than 1% of the Earth's water supply is fresh
- One quart of oil can contaminate a million gallons of water
- Used oil is the largest single source of oil pollution (more than 40 percent of total oil pollution) in our nation's waterways.
- Just one quart of oil is enough to create a two-acre sized oil slick on surface water.
